TENUTA SAN GUIDO, SASSICAIA ekstra djevičansko maslinovo ulje (extra virgin olive oil)

33,00

The olive growing areas of the estate are arranged in promiscuous plantations, in compliance with the traditional agricultural style and characteristic of the historic Tuscan estates.

The olive trees of the following varieties Leccino, Moraiolo, Pendolino and Frantoio, are not planted next to each other in specialized installations but they grow in alternating rows of fields or vineyards.

The total number of olive trees on the estate is about 8,000 of which 2,000 plants serve a purely landscape and soil conservation use, being present in soils that are difficult to cultivate.

POVIJEST / HISTORY

The wedding of Mario Incisa della Rocchetta and Clarice della Gherardesca on October 18th 1930 started it all. They shared a love for thoroughbred horses that made them form a partnership with horse breeder and trainer Federico Tesio. Mario Incisa’s love of good wine made him plant Cabernet vines in 1942 for what was to become Sassicaia. Seventeen years later the Bolgheri Bird Sanctuary becomes Italy’s first private nature preserve.

Tenuta San Guido was named after the holy Guido della Gherardesca who lived during the 11th century. It is located on the coast of Tyrrhenia, between Leghorn and Grosseto, in Maremma, an area celebrated by Italian Nobel laureate Giosuè Carducci, and stretches 13 km from the sea to the hills. Three of its key characteristics are: Sassicaia wine, the purebred Razza Dormello-Olgiata stud farm and the Padule di Bolgheri Bird Sanctuary. The estate is divided between Padula on the coast, horse training grounds on the plain and vineyards planted up to 350 meters on the hills. The latter were given their own DOC, DOC Bolgheri Sassicaia, the first and so far only case in Italy of a DOC located in a single estate.
