Bordeaux je vinska regija smještena u jugozapadnoj Francuskoj te je domovina najpoznatijih svjetskih vinara. Ima stoljetnu tradiciju, a u vinima Bordeaux-a uživali su i stari Rimljani. Oko grada Bordeaux-a se nalazi 14 000 proizvođača vina te 117 514 hektara vinograda.

Regija je u blizini rijeke Gironde te Atlantskog oceana zbog čega ima morsku klimu. Ocean i rijeka donose blagu zimu i topla ljeta te duge sunčane jeseni. Regija je zaštićena od oceanskih snažnih vjetrova sa gustom borovom šumom koja se proteže paralelno uz regiju. Zbog rijeke i oceana regija ima vapnenačko tlo sa glinom i pijeskom što je izuzetno pogodno tlo za uzgoj vinove loze.

Bordeaux je najpoznatiji po crvenim vinima te plemenitim slatkim vinima, no ne zaostaju ni visokokvalitetna bijela vina. Bordeaux crvena vina imaju jedinstveni izražaj regije koji je prepoznatljiv u cijelom svijetu. Najčešće crne sorte koja se uzgajaju su Cabernet sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet franc, Petit Verdot, Malbec. Najčešće bijele sorte su Sauvignon blanc, Semilion i Muscadelle. Klasifikacija bordoških vina počela je 1855. godine. Bordoški vinogradi podjeljeni su na pet regija; Entre-Deux-Mers, Libournais, Bourgeais-Blayais, Gravec i Medoc.

 

Bordeaux is a wine region located in southwestern France and is home to the world’s most famous winemakers. It has a century-old tradition, and the wines of Bordeaux were enjoyed by the ancient Romans. There are 14,000 wine producers and 117,514 hectares of vineyards around the city of Bordeaux.

The region is close to the Gironde River and the Atlantic Ocean, which is why it has a maritime climate. The ocean and river bring mild winters and warm summers and long sunny autumns. The region is protected from strong ocean winds with a dense pine forest that runs parallel to the region. Due to the river and ocean, the region has calcareous soil with clay and sand, which is an extremely suitable soil for growing vines.

Bordeaux is best known for its red wines and noble sweet wines, but high-quality white wines are not far behind. Bordeaux red wines have a unique expression of the region that is recognizable all over the world. The most common black varieties that are grown are Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Malbec. The most common white varieties are Sauvignon blanc, Semilion and Muscadelle. The classification of Bordeaux wines began in 1855. The Bordeaux vineyards are divided into five regions; Entre-Deux-Mers, Libournais, Bourgeais-Blayais, Gravec and Medoc.

Chateau je sagrađen oko 1880. godine s velikom vinarijom i veličanstvenom kamenom prešom. Nakon depresije 1930-ih i pojave zadruga, proizvodnja dvorca je prodana Vinarskoj zadruzi Gensac. Godine 1995. vlasnici su odlučili izaći iz zadruge i ponovno proizvoditi vino na imanju. To je označilo početak nove ere za Carbonneau. Stara vinarija je obnovljena, postavljene su nove bačve od nehrđajućeg čelika, au podrumu su postavljene prve bačve nakon 50 godina. Vinarija je izgrađena u kamenu iz istog doba kao i dvorac i prirodno zatvara dvorište. ​ Bilo u vinogradu ili u vinariji, Wilfrid i njegov tim predani su proizvodnji vina koja izražavaju sav potencijal Carbonneauovog terroira. Vinograd se nalazi na brežuljcima posjeda koji ima povoljnu ekspoziciju jug/jugozapad. U poljima ispod, 20 Aquitaine Blond goveda sretno dijele 30 hektara plodnijeg tla. Uloga stoke usko je povezana s vinogradom jer ona daje potpuno prirodno gnojivo na bazi stajnjaka proizvedeno na farmi. ​Od berbe 2019., Carbonneau je u organskoj pretvorbi s agencijom Ecocert i bit će organski certificiran (AB) od berbe 2022. Ova pretvorba bila je logična odluka za dvorac jer je u skladu s našom željom i našom predanošću razvoju kvalitete naših vina tijekom godina koja odražava izražaj našeg terroira. Zbog toga smo 2021. godine započeli konverziju ne samo vinograda nego i cjelokupnog gospodarstva u biodinamičku poljoprivredu te će od berbe 2023. biti u biodinamičkom certifikatu (Demeter). Biodinamika je korak dalje prema poštivanju života i seljačkog znanja. To je također filozofija koja ima za cilj optimizirati resurse farme kako bi se smanjila naša ovisnost o vanjskim inputima. Bilo u vinogradu ili uzgoju, cilj za budućnost je zdravlje našeg tla kako bi se tijekom vremena povećala njegova plodnost.

 

The Chateau was built around 1880 with a large winery and a magnificent stone press. Following the depression in the 1930s and the emergence of cooperatives, the chateau’s production was sold to the Gensac Wine Cooperative. In 1995 the owners decided to pull out of the cooperative and once again make wine on the property. This marked the beginning of a new era for Carbonneau. The old winery was restored, new stainless steel vats were installed and the cellar housed its first barrels in 50 years. The winery was constructed in stone of the same era as the chateau and naturally closes the courtyard .​Whether it is on the vineyard or in the winery, Wilfrid and his team are committed to produce wines that express all the potential of Carbonneau’s terroir. The vineyard is located on the hills of the property which benefits from a favorable south/south-west exposition. In the fields below, 20 Aquitaine Blond cattle happily share 30 hectares of more fertile grounds. The role of the cattle is tightly linked to the vineyard as they provide full natural manure based fertiliser produced on the farm. ​Since the 2019 harvest, Carbonneau has been in organic conversion with the Ecocert agency and will be in organic certified (AB) from the 2022 harvest. This conversion was a logical decision for the château since it is in line with our desire and our commitment to develop the quality of our wines over the years reflect the expression of our terroir. This is why in 2021 we started the conversion not only of the vineyard but of the farm in its entirety towards biodynamic agriculture and it will be in biodynamic certified (Demeter) from the 2023 harvest. Biodynamics is a step further towards respect for life and peasant know-how. It is also a philosophy that aims to optimize farm resources in order to reduce our dependence on external inputs. Whether in the vineyard or in breeding, the objective for the future is the health of our soils in order to increase their fertility over time.
