CHATEAU DAUZAC, 2022

Deep, dark purple color stains the glass & is completely opaque. Aromas are of juicy, intense black-fruit, graphite & clean cedar. The palate shows some lifted violet notes before black-cherry, graphite & cedar characteristics take over. The wine is medium to full-bodied with a tight core of graphite & cedar enveloping the dark-fruit. Alcohol appears balanced. Crunchy, fresh cassis opens on the long, structured finish where it is framed by fine oak tannins.

Bordeaux is a famous wine region located in southwestern France and is home to the world’s most famous winemakers. It has a century-old tradition and the wines of Bordeaux were enjoyed by the ancient Romans. The port of Bordeaux has been a World Heritage Site since 2009. There are 14,000 wine producers and 117,514 hectares of vineyards around the city of Bordeaux. The region is close to the Gironde River and the Atlantic Ocean, which is why it has a maritime climate. The ocean and river bring mild winters and warm summers and long sunny autumns. The region is protected from strong ocean winds with a dense pine forest that runs parallel to the region. Due to the river and ocean, the region has calcareous soil with clay and sand, which is extremely suitable soil for growing vines. Bordeaux is best known for its red wines and noble sweet wines, but high-quality white wines are not far behind. Bordeaux red wines have a unique expression of the region that is recognizable all over the world. The most common red wines produced are Cabernet sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet franc, Petit Verdot, Malbec. The most common white wines are Sauvignon blanc, Semilion and Muscadelle. The classification of Bordeaux wines began in 1855. The Bordeaux vineyards are divided into five regions; Entre-Deux-Mers, Libournais, Bourgeais-Blayais, Gravec and Medoc. Medoc is located on a triangular peninsula surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean and the Gironde River, which have an extremely favorable effect on grape growing. Bordeaux also has a large industrial center, especially focused on aeronautics. The most famous aeronautics companies are Dassault, Safran and Thales. While the Megajoule laser, which is crucial for the French nuclear program, is being built on the outskirts of the city of Bordeaux, the Ministry of Defense has invested two billion euros in it. Of the other industries, the petrochemical and pharmaceutical industries are present. One of the most famous sights of Bordeaux is its university, which was founded in 1441 thanks to Pope Eugene IV. The University of Bordeaux is divided into 4 parts: the University of Bordeaux, the University of Victor Segalen Bordeaux 2, the University of Michel de Montaigne Bordeaux 3 and the University of Montesquieu Bordeaux 4.

Classified as Fifth Grand Cru Classé in Margaux in 1855, Château Dauzac is recognised as one of the finest crus in the Médoc, on Bordeaux’s Left Bank. In 1863, it was at Château Dauzac that Ernest David, the estate manager, developed the famous “bouillie bordelaise” (Bordeaux mixture), which was subsequently widely used to combat the mildew crisis.

With a 49-hectare vineyard in a single block right next to the Gironde Estuary, Château Dauzac enjoys a privileged location. Planted on a deep gravelly hillside with soils consisting of alluvial terraces resting on gravelly and clayey subsoils, the Château Dauzac vineyard boasts an exceptional terroir of its own.

Under the leadership of Managing Director Laurent Fortin, Château Dauzac now ranks among the finest wines in the Médoc, thanks to the hard work carried out both in the vineyards and in the cellars. The wines of Château Dauzac express all the authenticity of the terroir in which they were produced, and offer exceptionally complex aromas. Their supple palate is a model of balance, combining rich fruit and structured tannins. With all the charm of the Margaux appellation, Château Dauzac wines are particularly well-suited to ageing, blossoming gracefully over the years.
